Paul Van Dyk AT Sensation white

Paul van Dyk (Matthias Paul) hails from Eisenhüttenstadt, Germany, is a leading trance DJ and is currently the world's #1 DJ (as voted for by DJ mag readers) knocking Tiësto off the top spot which he'd held for three years running.

His first production, in collaboration with Cosmic Baby as Visions of Shiva, was released in 1992. Before this, he used to do mix-tapes for his friends. In 1993 Paul's first album was released, entitled 45RPM. He also remixed the song Love Stimulation. He also did some nightclub work at a Berlin nightclub called E-Werk.

By 1997, when he released his second album Seven Ways, he'd established himself a huge fanbase and was becoming quite a popular DJ. He released three singles off the album called Forbidden Fruit, Words and Seven Ways. Each one of them was a wide success in Britain and was played in many nightclubs.
One year later in 1998 he released his 45RPM album in the UK and it reached number 1. To mark the event, Paul released his 1998 E-Werk remix of For An Angel, the track is still widely played today and is considered a dance classic.
In 1998 Paul also released his first remix compilation titled "Vorsprung Dyk Technik". The compilation held all his remixes from 1992 to 1998.

Paul also took up a residency at Sheffield’s Gatecrasher Club, as well as doing this, in a brave move he declared himself anti-drugs.
In 2000 he released his third album entitled Out There And Back. He released the hit single Tell Me Why (Riddles) off the album. In 2001, he released his second mixed compilation entitled The Politics of Dancing and in 2003 he released Global, the DVD.
In 2003 he also released his fourth album, Reflections on which is the single Nothing But You.
In 2005 he released a single entitled The Other Side (featuring Wayne Jackson) and his third compilation album, The Politics of Dancing 2.
Paul van Dyk is not only a DJ, but a producer as well, he's a huge influence in the trance genre. In his latest gigs, he is blurring the line between DJing and live performance engineering by utilizing two Powerbook laptops sporting Serato Scratch and Ableton software, meaning he can make 'on-the-fly remixes'.

Paul van Dyk continues to take trance to new and exciting levels and truely is considered a trance legend.
